Basketball Recap: Discovery Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Discovery came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 42-38 win over the Duluth Wildcats. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Wildcats are ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Discovery to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tiara Jones, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 boards. Jones has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. Krisheya Wilson was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nilah Jones, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That's the most steals Jones has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Saniya Johnson, who posted ten points in addition to six assists and six boards.

Discovery is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.1 points per game. As for Duluth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Discovery will face off against Buford at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Discovery is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season. As for Duluth, they will take on Meadowcreek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
