Baseball Game Preview: Northeastern Clinton Cougars vs. Saranac Chiefs

For the second straight game, Northeastern Clinton will face off against Saranac. The Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northeastern Clinton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Northeastern Clinton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They skirted past Saranac 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Chiefs since May 18, 2022.

Jacob Perkins and Robert McIntyre were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Perkins didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, McIntyre pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Perkins also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Northeastern Clinton is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. At the plate, Perkins went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while McIntyre went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Perkins is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Carter Garceau was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

With the defeat, Saranac broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-10. As for Northeastern Clinton, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northeastern Clinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saranac struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
