Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gaston Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Newman, who scored 28 points along with seven assists. Makoi Mabor Marier was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Gaston Day lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chase Owens. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshawn Coulter, who scored 20 points along with two steals.
Gaston Christian's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-13. As for Gaston Day, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-9.
Gaston Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face SouthLake Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Gaston Day, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Metrolina Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Metrolina Christian Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Gaston Day is ranked 103rd).
