Pittsburg has gone 8-2 against Freedom recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Pittsburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Pittsburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Tesoro, taking the game 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.
JJ Robinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Desmond Toomer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Robinson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Diego Deluna, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Freedom fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Vacaville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Like Pittsburg, Freedom also got a great game from a two-way player: Gabe Jost. On the mound, he pitched eight innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, Jost gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Freedom's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Pittsburg, their record is now 13-1.
Pittsburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Freedom when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
