The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders won the last time they faced the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Mater Dei Catholic took down Academy of Our Lady of Peace 52-37. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mater Dei Catholic.
Mater Dei Catholic can attribute much of their success to Valentina Aranalde, who scored ten points along with four steals. Aranalde has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Otilia Sua, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Academy of Our Lady of Peace saw an underclassman step up: Sydney Thomas scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Gehler, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Mater Dei Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.
Mater Dei Catholic will square off against Oceanside at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Olympian at 7:00 p.m. Olympian will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
