The biggest upset of the week belonged to Montgomery-Lonsdale, who took down 68th ranked Mayer Lutheran, 16-13.
Watertown-Mayer extended the longest winning streak in Minnesota River this week by beating Le Sueur-Henderson, 28-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Royals.
The Crusaders' dynamic duo of Jeremiah Grimsley and Anthony Gruenhagen proved tough for the Redbirds to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grimsley threw for 140 yards and one touchdown and Gruenhagen had 53 yards receiving. Tanner Luebke helped Mayer Lutheran's passing attack out by catching three balls for 45 yards.
Joe Reinert was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 147 yards on 25 carries as Watertown-Mayer fell to Montgomery-Lonsdale. Teammate Max Zitzloff added to the ground attack by rushing for 46 yards.
Dean Aurich's team's Grimsley and Luebke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grimsley has thrown for 471 yards this season, while Luebke, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has nine catches for 243 yards. Craig Johnson's team's Reinert leads the league in rushing yards with 579.
A big matchup in Minnesota River this week will be when the Royals take on Sibley East. Watertown-Mayer is currently in first, while the Wolverines are in third.
Norwood-Young America was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Raiders beat Jordan 28-0 earlier in the week.
