West Platte and Plattsburg are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bluejays will take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Platte is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
West Platte proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Lawson 5-4.

Sophie Grier made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Grier wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addy Hughes, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Maddie Cline also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Plattsburg duked it out with Stewartsville on Monday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like West Platte, Plattsburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Penelope Irizarry. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, Irizarry is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in October of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Nelson, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Sophie Schmitten was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Plattsburg lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Plattsburg now has a winning record of 7-6. As for West Platte, their record now sits at 6-2.
West Platte came out on top in a nail-biter against Plattsburg in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
