Monroe has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Anson Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Monroe has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Monroe scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 76-49 victory over Forest Hills at home. Monroe pushed the score to 59-36 by the end of the third, a deficit Forest Hills had little chance of recovering from.
Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Micah Allen led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Allen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Young, who scored 14 points along with six assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Anson pushed their score all the way to 82 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 89-82 hit to the loss column at the hands of Forest Hills. Anson has struggled against Forest Hills recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Anson might have lost, but man, Jayden Little was a machine: he scored 48 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That was a full 58.5% of Anson's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Emmanuel Sturdivant was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Monroe's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Anson, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
Monroe was able to grind out a solid win over Anson in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 64-53. Will Monroe repeat their success, or does Anson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
