The Santa Fe Chiefs will head out on the road to challenge the Whittier Christian Heralds at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Santa Fe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Wednesday.
Santa Fe suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 62-34 loss at the hands of California. While losing is never fun, Santa Fe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 693rd, while California is ranked 275th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Emily Collins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Natalie Rivera was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Whittier Christian put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Valley Christian 69-36 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Whittier Christian has posted since December 6, 2023.
Whittier Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jatniel Cabrera out in front who scored 17 points along with five steals. Cabrera has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Sanborn, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Santa Fe has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Whittier Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.
Santa Fe barely slipped by Whittier Christian in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 46-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Fe since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
