It was a good run, but the Valparaiso Vikings unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to Lake Central 46-41. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Valparaiso has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Valparaiso had strong showings from Becca Gerdt, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Lillian Barnes, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and six steals. Barnes has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played.
Lake Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vanessa Wimberly led the charge by scoring 12 points along with five rebounds. Riley Milausnic was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Valparaiso's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Lake Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.
Valparaiso's road trip will continue as they head out to face Michigan City at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Michigan City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Valparaiso is ranked 59th). As for Lake Central, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Hammond Morton at 7:00 p.m. Hammond Morton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 339 points over their last five contests.
