The Gilroy Mustangs will challenge the Lynbrook Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gilroy will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak dating back to last season.
On Saturday, Gilroy made easy work of North Monterey County and carried off a 12-2 win. Fans of the Mustangs have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Mitchell Friebel looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Evan Passama was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lynbrook came out on top against Gunderson on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fifth inning. The Vikings blew past the Grizzlies 11-5. The Vikings have beaten the Grizzlies the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Grizzlies has come to flipping the script.
Noah Bowers made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Bowers was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Akira Gok, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Logan Chao was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Lynbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gunderson only posted an OBP of .333.
Gilroy's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Lynbrook, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Gilroy got the 'W' when the teams last played back in February of 2025 against Lynbrook by a conclusive 14-1 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
