Whitney is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will venture away from home to face off against the Glenn Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Whitney has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Whitney is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 27th on Friday. They came up short against Westminster, falling 15-6. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Whitney saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Licon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. David Trujillo was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glenn). They put the hurt on Compton Early College with a sharp 13-3 victory on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Michael Perez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evan Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jonah Mason, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Glenn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Glenn's record now sits at 3-7. As for Whitney, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Glenn's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitney hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. It's a different story for Glenn, though, as they've only averaged .234. Will they be able to contain Whitney's hitters?
Whitney might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Glenn when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
