After a string of four wins, the Eastlake Titans's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Mira Mesa by a score of 49-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Eastlake has suffered yet this season.
When it comes to explaining why Eastlake lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mia Jones. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Helen Rosales, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Eastlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mira Mesa only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Ivorii Seals continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mira Mesa, scoring 30 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Seals has scored at least a third of Mira Mesa's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Otero, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Eastlake's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Mira Mesa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season.
Eastlake on the road again on Saturday and play against Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 10:30 a.m. on January 20th. Mira Mesa won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lincoln at 6:15 p.m. on January 16th. Lincoln is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
