After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hertford County, the First Flight Nighthawks were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Holmes by a score of 54-44. First Flight pushed the score to 46-25 by the end of the third, a deficit Holmes cut but never quite recovered from.
First Flight was led to victory by Josephine Voight and Maddy Beatson. Voight scored 14 points along with three steals, while Beatson scored 17 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Summer Stevens, who scored six points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ellie Spear. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Foster, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
First Flight's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Holmes, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
First Flight will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Pasquotank County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 456th, while First Flight is ranked 154th). As for Holmes, they will be playing at home against Camden County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Camden County is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
