Amalia Holguin, the last of a group of girls coached by the late Kobe Bryant, committed Monday to play basketball at the University of Texas.
The
Sage Hill (Newport Beach, Calif.) senior averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game as a junior. The Lightning went 23-12 and reached the Division 1 state final.
Bryant, who finished his Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2016, began coaching his daughter Gianna on a club team he created at The Mamba Academy. Bryant, Gianna and seven others were tragically killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020 on their way to play a game.

Holguin, a 5-foot-9 guard, made her official visit over the weekend and committed Monday over schools like Louisville, UConn and UCLA. She is the first high school commit for the Longhorns this year.
Texas went 35-4 last season, reaching the Final Four before losing 74-57 to eventual runner-up South Carolina.
