The Harrison Hoyas will face off against the Alexander Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Harrison comes in on four and Alexander on 15.
While Harrison's victory against Cartersville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hoyas had just enough and edged out the Hurricanes 9-7.
Meanwhile, Alexander won against Westlake on Thursday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand New Manchester an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won 18 contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ebbie Simmons made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Sloan Shaw looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in September.
Back at the plate, Alexis May and Kenzie Townsend did most of the damage at the plate: May got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Townsend went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most stolen bases May has posted since back in September. Madison Smith was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Alexander always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matchups.
Harrison's win bumped their record up to 23-4. As for Alexander, their victory bumped their record up to 24-2.
Harrison couldn't quite get it done against Alexander when the teams last played back in August of 2019 as they fell 3-0. Can the Hoyas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
