The Martins Ferry Purple Riders will challenge the Indian Creek Redskins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Martins Ferry barely beat The Linsly School the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Martins Ferry's pitcher stepped up to hand The Linsly School a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Purple Riders in their matchups with the Cadets: they've now won four in a row.
Maddie Lucas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Lucas was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Giana Chirpas was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kendyl Brandon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Indian Creek and Edison, and Indian Creek kept the tradition alive. Indian Creek walked away with an 8-5 win over Edison on Tuesday.
Like Martins Ferry, Indian Creek also got a great game from a two-way player: McKenna Scott. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Scott was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Sadler, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Emma Vok was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Martins Ferry pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Indian Creek, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Martins Ferry skirted past Indian Creek 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Does Martins Ferry have another victory up their sleeve, or will Indian Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
