Basketball Game Preview: Prairie Central Hawks vs. St. Thomas More Sabers

After both having extra time off, the Prairie Central Hawks and the St. Thomas More Sabers will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Prairie Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Prairie Central turned things around against Newark two weeks ago. Everything went their way against the Norsemen as they made off with a 52-27 win. That looming 52-27 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.

Prairie Central found their leader in sophomore Jayla Hammond, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Hammond a new career-high in steals (six). Cami Slagel was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Prairie Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas More can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game two weeks ago. They walked away with a 25-13 victory over Paxton-Buckley-Loda.

St. Thomas More's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Prairie Central, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.

Prairie Central came up short against St. Thomas More in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 36-25. Can Prairie Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
