The McClatchy Lions''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 20-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Burbank. McClatchy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Burbank apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Zayvion Barnes and Samuel Hernandez-Hartman, McClatchy certainly did their beston Friday to try and avoid the loss. Barnes rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns, while Hernandez-Hartman rushed for 106 yards. Hernandez-Hartman's longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards.
McClatchy's loss was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-2 Grant and 8-3 Monterey Trail (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.5% over those games). As for Burbank, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McClatchy will take on Bella Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bella Vista is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Burbank, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Kennedy at 7:15 p.m. Kennedy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than zero points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
