The Chaminade Eagles will take on the Newbury Park Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Chaminade's offense. They fell 3-0 to Xavier Prep on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Chaminade got a good showing from Noah Galvan, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Galvan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Chaminade saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Hearn, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newbury Park). They put the hurt on Shadow Hills with a sharp 14-3 win on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Cole Munyon was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Newbury Park: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Andrew Vega was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Newbury Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Newbury Park has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Chaminade, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Chaminade came out on top in a nail-biter against Newbury Park in their previous matchup back in February of 2018, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
