Unioto and Washington are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Unioto Shermans will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Washington Blue Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Unioto really took it to Alexander for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-23 victory on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Unioto has managed all season.
Unioto's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zeke Schobelock, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Schobelock continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Blake Fitch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight assists and four steals.
Washington has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 23 points or more this season. They breezed by Lynchburg-Clay at home to the tune of 68-40. Given Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while Lynchburg-Clay is ranked 546th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
The victory got Unioto back to even at 4-4. As for Washington, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Unioto came up short against Washington in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 54-49. Thankfully for Unioto, Tanner Lemaster (who scored 17 points along with five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
