The East Nicolaus Spartans were the 46-26 winner over the Pierce Bears when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. East Nicolaus took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pierce.
Makinze Massey and Kaylyn Ponce certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Massey scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, while Ponce scored four points along with two steals.
Pierce's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Magali Jauregui led the charge by scoring 12 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Destany Martinez, who scored four points along with three steals.
East Nicolaus' loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8. As for Pierce, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-12.
East Nicolaus will look to defend their home court on Friday against Durham at 7:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Payton Santos and Rylee Gillespie. Pierce won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Willows at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th.
