Colson Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Triston White, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.
Terrell Academy hit Fullington Academy with a six-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans lost 12-2 to the Eagles. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Fullington Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cutter Tharpe, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was Clay Sangster, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Valwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Fullington Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Valwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fullington Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Valwood took their win against Fullington Academy when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Valiants since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
