Washington Union had lost six straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 11-15 to make it seven. They fell 9-5 to the Kerman Lions. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent defeat being a 4-1 loss on Tuesday.
Jeremiah Nino was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Broden Andrews made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run was his first of the season. Dailon Finderup was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Kerman, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.
Like Washington Union, Kerman also got a great game from a two-way player: Joban Hans. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hans was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kerman let Max Ramirez and Daniel Lanfranco run wild. Ramirez got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Lanfranco went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Lanfranco has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of John Borges, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Coming up, Washington Union will welcome Firebaugh at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Kerman, they will venture away from home to take on Sierra Pacific at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
