The Sutherland Sailors fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down Garden County 42-28 on Tuesday. Sutherland pushed the score to 38-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Sutherland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mahala Vasquez, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Vasquez has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Glory Naughtin, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Garden County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ridglyn Stanczyk, who scored ten points. Karma Peterson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Sutherland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-12 record this season. As for Garden County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
