Columbus is a perfect 5-0 against Spencer since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Greenwave at 5:30 p.m. Columbus is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
If Columbus beats Spencer with four runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Blue Devils walked away with a 4-1 win over Marion County on Monday.
Michael Nottleman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Ren Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Spencer hadn't done well against Carver recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Greenwave were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Tigers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 22, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Spencer got a massive performance out of Johnnie Taylor, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave Taylor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Buller, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Spencer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Columbus' victory bumped their record up to 18-10. As for Spencer, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Columbus has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Spencer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Columbus got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Spencer by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greenwave turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
