The Escalon Cougars typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Hughson Huskies proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 61-53 victory over the Cougars. The win was all the more spectacular given Hughson's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while Escalon is ranked 148th).
Madi Duron continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Gracie Quillen was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Hughson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Escalon, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hughson will take on Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Escalon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hilmar at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Hilmar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
