Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is St. Mary's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

St. Mary had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Valley Christian Warriors on Tuesday by a score of 4-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Rams have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Tanner Grove was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Dax Hardcastle was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brady Errecart, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

St. Mary's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Christian only posted a batting average of .130.

St. Mary's is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 25-8-1.

Coming up, St. Mary's is taking a road trip to square off against De La Salle at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 2.5, the Spartans 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Valley Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
