Los Osos had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Etiwanda Hawks, falling 16-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-5 on Monday.
Presten Young was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
As for Etiwanda, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
On Etiwanda's side, Jaxson Milius made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Milius a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with six RBI.
In other pitching news, Noah Frias looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Etiwanda: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Etiwanda got a massive performance out of Lj Roellig, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The Hawks are undefeated when Roellig posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Derick Kim was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Looking ahead, Los Osos will face off against Huntington Beach at 12:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Oilers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Grizzlies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Etiwanda, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bishop Amat at 3:15 p.m. on the 8th. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 3.5, the Lancers 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
