Mathias Reynolds was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Mary Star of the Sea: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Richard Bautista also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Mary Star of the Sea was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy only posted a batting average of .278.
Meanwhile, North had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Peninsula on Wednesday, sneaking past 1-0.
The result came thanks to Justin Olivar's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nicky Gonzalez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
Mary Star of the Sea's record now sits at 11-9. As for North, their record is now 9-13.
Mary Star of the Sea's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Stars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for North, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mary Star of the Sea continue to outrun the ball?
Mary Star of the Sea couldn't quite get it done against North when the teams last played back in February as they fell 12-7. Can the Stars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
