The Lejeune Devil Pups pushed their score all the way to 68 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 76-68 to Pamlico County. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Lejeune of the 72-62 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Several Devil Pups players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Camron Myers, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Myers has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Highsmith, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Pamlico County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braylen Ollison led the charge by scoring 21 points along with three steals. Ollison hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jayden Williams, who scored 22 points.
Lejeune's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-10. As for Pamlico County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.
Lejeune will head out on the road to challenge the Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southside is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Devil Pups a seven-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Pamlico County will take on the Mariners at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
