Gladstone junior end
Cam Sommer has verbally committed to Portland
State. The 6-3, 215-pounder is the Vikings' first recruit from the high
school class of 2012.
Among Sommer's 90 tackles were 30 tackles for
loss, 10 sacks and six pass deflections. He led the Gladiators to a 12-1
season. He also caught 21 passes, four for touchdowns.
Carl Sommer,
Cam's older brother, played defensive end for PSU last season. He is a
junior. They are the sons of former Milwaukie and Wilsonville coach Doug
Sommer, an assistant at Gladstone.
DYKES HIRED AS NEW LEBANON FOOTBALL COACHJosh Dykes has been hired as the new head football coach at
Lebanon.
Dykes takes over for Rob Allen, who stepped down at the end of last season after coaching football 30 years. Allen remains as the school's athletic director.
Dykes was Lebanon's offensive coordinator the last five seasons for Allen. Dykes, 34, was a Lebanon football assistant coach under Brad Bauer beginning in 2001 and has been teaching at the school since 2002.
PETRIK TAKES OVER ONE OF STATE'S TOP 8-MAN PROGRAMSFormer Bonanza head coach Kyle Petrik has been named head football coach at
Triad (Klamath Falls), one of the best in Oregon 8-man football.
Petrik replaces Jim Johnston, who went 31-10 and had three state playoff appearances in the program's first four years. Triad made the state semifinals the last two seasons, losing to eventual champion St. Paul in 2010.
Triad went 11-1 in 2009 and '10.
