The Azusa Aztecs had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 37-21 victory over San Gabriel on Wednesday. The victory was just what Azusa needed coming off of a 55-16 loss in their prior contest.
Azusa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tanisha Rentereia, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Evelin Villalva, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Azusa's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9. As for San Gabriel, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Azusa will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nogales at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024. San Gabriel will be home for the holidays to greet Whittier Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Whittier Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Tuesday.
