After a string of four wins, the East Tech Scarabs's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were dealt a 85-47 loss at the hands of Mentor. While losing is never fun, East Tech can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Cardinals are ranked 58th).
Despite the loss, East Tech had strong showings from Keshawn Ellington, who scored 15 points along with three steals, and Chris Simon, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Mentor's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Biddell, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Ioppolo, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.
East Tech's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Mentor, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Tech will challenge the Lakers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Max S. Hayes is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Mentor, they will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Euclid has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 6.
