Basketball Recap: Wasco Piles Up the Points Against California City

While Wasco didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-23), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 61-10 stomp they got against the California City Ravens. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Wasco's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaelynn Juarez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine steals. Juarez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Vianey Velasquez was another key player, putting up 14 points and four steals.

Wasco is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.3 points per game. As for California City, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Wasco wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 34-27 win against Orosi on the 27th. California City and Desert will round out the year against one another at at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
