The Grundy County Panthers will face off against the Gilman City Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Grundy County had taken Meadville down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Panthers lost 13-3 to the Eagles. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gilman City). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Mercer on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their one-run performance the game before.
Tenley Griffith and Alli Burke were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Griffith tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Burke tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Griffith got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Burke went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Khloey Sperry was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Caitlynn Chalfant was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Gilman City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Grundy County now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Gilman City, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
