Cole Mountain looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Woodrow Wilson got a massive performance out of Nathaniel Parris, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Parris a new career-high. Cade Miller was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Woodrow Wilson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Long Beach Poly never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Calvary Chapel last Tuesday. They blew past the Eagles 11-2.
Matthew Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Long Beach Poly is 2-1 when Garcia allowsone or fewer hits, but 2-7 otherwise. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Tate Hammond was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Caleb Safotu, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-5.
Woodrow Wilson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Long Beach Poly's win bumped their record up to 4-8.
Woodrow Wilson came out on top in a nail-biter against Long Beach Poly in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Does Woodrow Wilson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Long Beach Poly turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
