Hiram hasn't had much luck against Paulding County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Hiram Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Paulding County Patriots at 5:55 p.m. Hiram is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Hiram gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Osborne. The win was familiar territory for the Hornets, who have now won three contests in a row.
Josh Tuggle was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Those runs marked the first that he's scored this season. Jory Wardlaw was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Paulding County kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kennesaw Mountain.
Paulding County also got a good showing from Hunter Redden, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Redden a new career-low in walks (one).
On the hitting side, Paulding County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Lehman, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Hiram's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Paulding County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
