Softball Recap: Central City Sets Scoring Season-High Against Pierce

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central City). They put the hurt on the Pierce Bluejays with a sharp 16-4 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Bison, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Payton Burbach was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Central City let Journi Schindler and Emma Brandes run wild. Schindler went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Brandes went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Schindler has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Juno Ryan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

Central City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Central City is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pierce, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, Central City and Pierce will both be playing Ord the next time they take the field. The Bison will head out to face the Chanticleers at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, while the Bluejays will play them later in the day, at 12:30 p.m.
