Monache is 3-0 against the Pioneers since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Monache Marauders will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Whitney Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monache has ten straight victories, the Pioneers have eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though San Joaquin Memorial scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, Monache still came out on top. Monache narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Panthers 62-59.
Monache's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Milly Rojas, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Rojas is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alisha Verdejo, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Mt. Whitney was beaten by the Miners 68-20 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Mt. Whitney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 893rd, while the Miners are ranked 308th).
Monache is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 games, which provided a nice bump to their 25-2 record this season. As for Mt. Whitney, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 11-14.
Everything came up roses for Monache against the Pioneers when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 86-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monache since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
