The Newbury Park Panthers had already won 19 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.6 points), and they went ahead and made it 20 on Friday. They strolled past Calabasas with points to spare, taking the game 48-33. Given Newbury Park's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Calabasas is ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newbury Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kierabella Coletta-Todd led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Coletta-Todd is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kimiko Carmer, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Newbury Park pushed their record up to 20-1 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Calabasas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will take on Westlake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Westlake's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. As for Calabasas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oaks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Andrea Woodward and Jocelynn Townsend.
