After a string of five wins, the Chavez Titans's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were beaten by Shafter 62-31. Chavez has not had much luck with Shafter recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Shafter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyla Schooley led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Schooley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexia Ramirez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Chavez's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9. As for Shafter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Chavez will head out on the road to square off against McFarland at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Shafter, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Taft at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Taft focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday.
