The North Clayton Eagles will head out to take on the Stephenson Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Clayton has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with ten straight defeats, while Stephenson will come in with three straight wins.
North Clayton came up short against Riverdale on Wednesday, falling 15-3.
Jeremiah Maffet made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Khamari Hill, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Stephenson won against Cedar Grove on Monday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Saints a 15-0 shutout. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.
Miles Allen made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Stephenson's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 8-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
Stephenson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .692. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
North Clayton's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Stephenson, their record is now 10-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Clayton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Stephenson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North Clayton suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Stephenson in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
