The Crawford Colts struggled with assists on Saturday (the Olympian Eagles had 17 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Crawford was beaten by Olympian 84-41. While losing is never fun, Crawford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 814th, while Olympian is ranked 292nd).
Crawford's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Fatuma Abdi, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four blocks, and Khadija Muriidi who scored 11 points. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ilhan Ali Mohammed, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Olympian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Asia Darcuiel, who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 8 assists. The contest was Darcuiel's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Alyssa Martin was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Crawford and nudges their season record down to 7-8. As for Olympian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.
Crawford is on the road again on Saturday and play against Escondido Charter at 12:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Olympian and Calexico will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at.
