Chino is 9-1 against Montclair since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Chino Cowboys just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Montclair Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on January 25th. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Chino sitting on 12 straight wins and Montclair on four.
Chino put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They breezed by Don Lugo on the road to the tune of 62-16. Given Chino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Don Lugo is ranked 772nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tess Oldenburg led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Oldenburg hasn't dropped below two blocks for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyndsey Valverde, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Montclair posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2023 on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Ontario as Montclair made off with a 46-25 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Montclair has posted against Ontario since February 4, 2020.
Chino has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Montclair, their victory bumped their record up to 18-5.
Everything came up roses for Chino against Montclair in their previous matchup on January 9th as the team secured a 69-34 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chino since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
