Sadly, the Smithfield-Selma Spartans are still looking for their first win of the season after 18 games. They took a serious blow against Fike on Wednesday, falling 58-14. Smithfield-Selma has struggled against Fike recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Fike's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jewel Brewington, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emory Skinner, who scored 18 points.
Smithfield-Selma's loss was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Fike, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Southern Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Smithfield-Selma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 18 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Fike, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Wake at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Wake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Tuesday.
