Basketball Recap: Fillmore Comes Up Short

Fillmore lost against Santa Paula back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Fillmore Flashes were dealt a 67-18 defeat at the hands of the Santa Paula Cardinals. The Flashes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-7.

Lucy Murillo and Hermelinda Ocegueda certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Murillo posted eight points in addition to 12 rebounds and four steals, while Ocegueda put up seven points along with nine boards and five steals. Murillo has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last nine times she's played.

Santa Paula's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalynn Rico, who went 7 of 13 en route to 17 points and seven steals. That's the most steals Rico has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Miahnna Galvan, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 10 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Fillmore and nudges their season record down to 8-18. As for Santa Paula, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Fillmore has already played their next game, a 52-31 win against Malibu on the 30th. Santa Paula has also already played their next contest (against Carpinteria), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
