The Leland Chargers are taking a road trip to square off against the Prospect Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Leland has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Prospect will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Tuesday, Leland was beaten by Evergreen Valley 59-28. The match marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite their loss, Leland saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Diya Boyapati, who posted 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. Alyssa Nagatani was another key player, putting up five points and four steals.
Even though they lost, Leland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Prospect was able to grind out a solid win over Pioneer on Tuesday, taking the game 56-44. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Mustangs are ranked 557th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leland better keep an eye on Sadie Slaughter. She was instrumental in Prospect's win, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 16 boards. With that strong performance, Slaughter is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Akeisha McDaid, who earned eight points and 13 rebounds.
Leland's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Prospect, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Leland took a serious blow against Prospect in their previous matchup back in January, falling 62-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Slaughter, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards.
