After flying high against the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers last Thursday, the Tyrone Golden Eagles came back down to earth. Tyrone fell just short of the Rams by a score of 47-45. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Tyrone of the 45-40 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Penns Valley Area's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Hopkins, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Dinges, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Tyrone has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Penns Valley Area, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Tyrone will face off against the Trojans at TBD on Friday. Greater Johnstown presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Golden Eagles in Pennsylvania (the Trojans are ranked 218th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 452nd). As for Penns Valley Area, they will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Somerset has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while the Rams will arrive with three straight victories.
