University Prep has gone a perfect 10-0 against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy at 3:15 p.m. University Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither University Prep nor Big Bear made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Jaguars had just enough and edged out the Bears 4-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Jaguars as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Ricky Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because University Prep is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-8 otherwise. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angel Herrera, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Angel Ortiz, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
University Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy suffered their biggest loss since April 8, 2024 on Friday. They lost 10-2 to Academy of Careers & Exploration. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kevyn Espinoza Ramos, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
University Prep now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. University Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
University Prep took their win against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 12-0 score.
